* “Project Gutenberg”:http://gutenberg.net/ is the granddaddy of all ebook sites. For older books this is the first place to look.

* “UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA’S E-BOOK LIBRARY”:http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/ebooks/ebooklist.html has 1,800 publicly-available e-books including classic British and American fiction, major authors, children’s literature, the Bible, Shakespeare, American history, African-American documents, and much more, all in MS Reader and Palm format.

* “Blackmask Online”:http://www.blackmask.com/page.php has over 10,000 books organized into categories, and in all the different eformats.

* “ibiblio – the public’s library and digital archive”:http://www.ibiblio.org/

* “The Internet Public Library”:http://www.ipl.org/div/books/index.html has too much reading material.

* “Esspc”:http://esspc-ebooks.com/default.htm has a nice selection of classic books in various formats. It includes reviews and recommendations.

* “Bartleby.com”:http://www.bartleby.com/ has a big collection of literature, reference and verse.

* “UPenn Digital Library: Online Books”:http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/

* “Great Books and Classics”:http://www.grtbooks.com/. Here you will find links to classic works of religion, philosophy, politics, science, history and literature from both East and West, spanning nearly four thousand years of human history. Works are indexed alphabetically by Author or Title, and chronologically by Author (or work, if anonymous). There are also separate indexes for works included in various reading lists, and works which are available in languages other than English.

* “Baen Free Library”:http://www.baen.com/library/ has a small collection of science fiction books. They keep releasing a few every now and then.
