bq. KARACHI, August 22 (Online): Bad weather and rough sea on Thursday caused heavy spillage of crude oil from Tasman Spirit, besides holding up the lighterage operation being undertaken by the Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

A good article in the Dawn about the absence of our beloved leaders. The kickbacks have already been recieved on the ship, so there’s not much incentive for the worthies to stir themselves.

bq.. … if there’s any other truly federal subject it is the sea. And yet when a disaster hit Karachi’s coastline, spewing poison and death into the waters of that sea, Pakistan’s present set of Indispensables – all our leaders being always indispensable – sat like the gods on Olympus, watching the disaster unfolding from the heights.

..The army is into everything, into every aspect of national life. Why wasn’t it into this ecological disaster in the making? A leadership lapse or a failure of imagination?

  1. Allowing M.T Golden Gate, a tanker vessel of the same owner chartered by PNSC struck to a wreck in the port of Karahi on 14th August ,2002 and leaked 1300 metric ton of oil in the channel of Karachi port, causing death of fish in the sea and pollution in the sea as well as in the air and the vessel was allowed to leave the port without detention, investigation and fine. Is not it a true case of corrpution

  2. It had been stuck for a while, there was a heavy oil spill on 13th August. Incompetence is the key word here, especially considering how it was dealt with.

  3. THIS BREAK UP OF SHIP IS TOTALLY PLANED by THE GOVERMENT OF PAKISTAN,THE GOVERMENT WANTS TO DEVELOP THE NEW PROJECT ON THE SEA VIEW

NOW PAKSITAN GOVERMENT STARTS EASILY WITH 1 BILLION DOLLARS OF IT’S NEW PROJECT THIS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT IT’S A PLAN

  4. How any Salvor company will dare to enter into any contract for removal of wrekcs of Tasman Spirit when the Admiral/Chairman of Karachi Port Trust has ordered to detain the ships and the tugs which where hired by the ex salvor to salve Tasman Spirit illegally violating International Law on the alleged ground that the ex salvor has caused alleged damaged to the port.

Will such foolish act of the Admiral/Chairman Karachi Port Trust may not drag Karachi Port Trust to claims in the Court by the owners of such ships and tugs and will make the Karachi port trust and port risk.

  5. May the people of Karachi request the Minister of Communication to resign honourably for make misguiding statements on TV that no damages were caused to the port by the grounding of Tasman Spirit close to the channel of Karachi Port Trust and claiming that the spilled of oil from the Tasman Spirit not causing any hazard to human life and prove that real democary exist in Pakistan
