MTV reports:

bq.. In what could well be the strangest and most refreshing media moment of the election season, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart turned up on a live broadcast of CNN’s “Crossfire” Friday and accused the mainstream media and his hosts in particular of being soft and failing to do their duty as journalists to keep politicians and the political process honest.

…”What you do is not honest. What you do is partisan hackery,” Stewart said. “You have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably.

“I watch your show every day, and it kills me. It’s so painful to watch,” Stewart added as it became apparent that the comedian was not joking. He went on to hammer the network, and the media in general, for its coverage of the presidential debates. Stewart said it was a disservice to viewers to immediately seek reaction from campaign insiders and presidential cheerleaders following the debates, noting that the debates’ famed “Spin Alley” should be called “Deception Lane.”

“The thing is, we need your help,” Stewart said. “Right now, you’re helping the politicians and the corporations and we’re left out there to mow our lawns.”

p. From the blogosphere:

bq. Also see America the Book and, of course, the Daily Show.

Stewart has great insight as well as an honesty thats compelling; *its truly frightening to know that the best we can do now is a comedy show.*

A letter to Jon Stewart, posted to ‘DailyKos’:http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2004/10/15/163040/95/358#358:

bq.. Subject: Thank you, Jon Stewart, patriot

Regarding your “Crossfire” appearance: Thankyouthankyouthankyou. Some of the best truth ever spoken on a godforsaken talking head show, and you did it in the little spaces where they allowed you just a word in edgewise. I don’t think Carlson et al get it, but I trust you were able to help some of their audience discover the nakedness of the Crossfire Emperors. You, sir, are a gentleman and a patriot. As a member of the United States body politic I salute you.

  3. I’d give anything to work on your show.

I deceived Japan by launching NEWSWEEK JAPAN

I speak and read Japanese and my extensive work with them has fostered a great sense of humor.

You’re what this country needs right now and I hope the rumors of you partaking a place on a revised CBS news are true.

  4. To Jon Stewart: We cannot wait until you do something about this item in the paper, Thursday, Feb.23:

The southern U. S. Border Patrol got new uniforms this week. The manufacture’s label reads, “Made in Mexico.” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Duhh??

    Jeanne and Rennie

  5. I am unable to see your global edition thru CNN since the programming is changed by

CNN every sunday. For example at 19:30 on sunday it continued with the world news

    instead of the global edition.
